A one-day seminar on ‘Heroes of the Battle of Trimmoopattan of 1857’ was
organised by the History Department and the Patriotic Club in collaboration
with the History Society of Gurdaspur. Dr. Karamjit Singh, SDM, Gurdaspur,
graced the seminar as the chief guest. The event commenced with a
welcome address by Principal Dr. Sharma, followed by an enlightening
session by the main speaker, Professor Raj Kumar Sharma, a renowned
historian. Professor Sharma highlighted the significance of the Battle of
Trimmoopattan in 1857. He also emphasized the importance of
remembering the martyrs of 1857, describing it as a crucial military conflict
during British rule and the first war of independence. He concluded that it is
our duty to honour local martyrs and their sacrifices, which have granted us
the freedom. Dr. Karamjit Singh, SDM also discussed various aspects of the
Battle of Trimmoopattan, bringing lesser-known facts to the students'
attention. The seminar concluded with everyone paying tribute to the
martyrs of Trimmoopattan. Additionally, several esteemed attendees,
including Professor Phoolan Attari, Secretary Professor Kuldeep Kumar
Sharma, Vice President Rajeev Dutt (Advocate), Professor Harpreet Singh
Chahal, Professor SS Chauhan, Joint Secretary Sri Ramesh Sharma, Inderjit
Singh Bajwa, Professor VK Sharma, Professor Kamal Kishore Attari, Professor
Shiv Dayal, Professor Gurcharan Jeet Kaur, Finance Secretary Dilbag Singh
Cheema, and Dr. Sham Singh, shared their views on this topic.
